Step into Cholōllān (Cholula), founded c. 500 BCE and occupied almost continuously until 1519; early Puebla–Tlaxcala tradition peoples established the city, followed by Olmeca-Xicallanca rule (650–900 CE) and a Tolteca-Chichimeca ascendancy (12th c.). At its sacred heart rises Tlachihualtépetl—the Great Pyramid of Cholula—built in superimposed stages; its final platform measures ~400 m (1,312 ft) per side and ~65 m (213 ft) high, the largest by volume in Mesoamerica. Research tunnels reveal stacked temples, plazas, and murals including the Mural de los Bebedores (56 m), a 3rd-c. ritual scene. Crowning the summit stands Our Lady of the Remedies (1594; present fabric 19th c.).
Then explore Puebla’s historic core (UNESCO 1987): the Puebla Cathedral (begun 1575; consecrated 1649), with Renaissance/Herrerian façades and Baroque programs; the gilded Rosario Chapel (1650–1690), a New Spanish Baroque jewel known as the Casa de Oro; and Talavera-lined streets, plazas, and artisan workshops. Savor mole poblano, cemitas, chalupas, and traditional sweets—your private itinerary includes free time for lunch.
Door-to-door private transportation, an expert certified-guide, and onboard bottled water, beer and soft drinks complete a curated experience. More than a tour: an unforgettable Cholula & Puebla private tour blending archaeology, architecture, and flavor.
